BELIEFS AND PROMISES

Greater transparency between school board and the county and families

Making sure our students with disabilities are consistently given equal treatment under the law

o   Ensuring that IEP and 504 meetings are positive environments for all involved

o   Ensuring that supports and accommodations agreed upon in those meetings are consistently carried out by fully qualified teachers and paraprofessionals

Making better use of current research on child development, brain science, and learning to make better decisions in our schools to serve the WHOLE child. This includes, but is not limited to…

o   Reconsidering how more movement throughout the day can actually improve academic performance

o   Taking the anxiety epidemic that is wreaking havoc on this generation of students seriously

Ensuring that we make the very best use of our tax dollars

o   Combing the budget for savings and ensuring that we get numerous bids on all projects

o   Improving our performance with regards to meeting the needs of our students with disabilities, thus lowering the amount the county is paying out on lawsuits to these families

Creating a greater sense of trust and respect between our county and school board and our teachers and staff

o   Giving our staff more freedom to determine what is needed and will work best for their unique population of kids

o   Giving staff an anonymous way to share feedback with school board members and then ensuring that that feedback is taken to the board and taken seriously
